But this week Go Back to Where You Came From’s Raye Colbey touched down in Wagga for a special fund-raising event at the Garden Court Restaurant.
And it was all in the name of St Vincent de Paul’s Refugee Week celebrations.
Explaining her change of views, Ms Colbey cited her experiences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Kakuma refugee camps in Kenya as just some of the experiences that turned her life inside out.
“I feel as though I got a better understanding, a certain amount of knowledge about the people coming here by boat,” she said.
“From doing the documentary I saw the other side of the way people lived and I’d like people to realise that these people need support.
“It made me far less angry and more understanding, a lot more patient and less afraid.”
