MORE than 200 items are up for auction at a fundraising event tomorrow night to raise money for the homecoming of Wagga man Stephen Williams, who is now a quadriplegic following a diving accident earlier this year. While at a buck's weekend in February, Stephen misjudged the water depth of Lake Mulwala before diving in and shattered his C6 vertebrae, sustaining life-changing injuries. The money raised at the auction will go towards the renovations of Stephen's home in preparation for his return and for an automatic wheelchair and electronic hoist to make everyday tasks achievable.Stephen's father, Bill said the ticket sales have been taking off in the last week with an expected 200 to be sold before the event."We are still selling the tickets, and they will be available at the door depending on numbers," he said. "So don't fear, we won't be turning anyone away. We want it to be a happy occasion for a sad situation."There will be 167 auction items, 32 silent auction items, and numerous others available on the night including building equipment, health and beauty products, wedding packages, gift vouchers, and electronic goods."Despite the circumstances of why we are conducting this event, we want it to be a happy night, a memorable night and be conscious of why we are there," Mr Williams said."There is so much memorabilia up for auction it's not funny. It has been incredible, we have items covering most teams in both the NRL and AFL."We are looking at quite an extensive sum of money from the auction. We have enormous costs fronting us."The event will start at 7pm tomorrow night and Jamie Way and DJ Zohan will provide entertainment.
