A WAGGA mum is pleading for the safe return of her three-year-old son, Ali, after he was kidnapped by his father while on holiday in India.Carla Allarakhia, 24, has not spoken to her son since Tuesday night when his father, 26-year-old Shabaz Allarakhia, took him from her mother at a motel in Mumbai where the trio were holidaying. The two-week overseas trip was permitted by an Australian Family Court order on the condition that Ali was accompanied by Carla’s mother Glenda and all three were to arrive back in Wagga yesterday.Instead, all anyone has heard from Mr Allarakhia is a phone call last week, in which he stated he would not be returning Ali to Australia.Glenda remains in India, alone, on what is her first trip overseas in the country’s most populated city, of 13 million people. She was served with court papers by Indian police at her motel room on the night Mr Allarakhia took Ali, to tell her he intends to apply for custody.Mrs Allarakhia only agreed to let Ali go to India after she consulted with a solicitor and had court orders in place. She says she has been living a nightmare since last week and is desperate for her son’s safe return. The last time she spoke to Ali, he told her he did not like India and wanted to come home.“I can’t think straight. I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. I want to go over there and search for my son,” Mrs Allarakhia said through her tears yesterday.“We have never been separated for this long. I wait by the phone. My mother blames herself. Ali was always happy, always smiling. He never went anywhere without his teddy. I just want him back.”The estranged couple met through friends in 2004 when Shazbaz Allarakhia arrived in Wagga from India to study information technology at Charles Sturt University. She described her ex-husband as “very strict” and “very aggressive”, although she does not believe he would hurt Ali.“In our first fight we ever had, he smashed everything up and poured kerosene everywhere and threatened to kill us all,” she said.Wagga police are appealing for Mr Allarakhia’s friends to come forward with any information.“Police are considering all available options to locate this child and take action against the person responsible for taking him. “We have been in contact with the Australian Federal Police and Interpol. We encourage anyone who knows the family or friends to speak to us,” Detective Inspector Rod Smith said.Information can be given to Wagga police on 6921 0544 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.The Daily Advertiser understands no action will be taken against Mr Allarakhia if he takes Ali to Carla’s mother in India and lets them return to Australia.
