With his Fitzmaurice Street business, The Duke of Kent Hotel, backing on to the Murrumbidgee River, Jack Egan said it was “inevitable” that they would eventually go under water.
A concern which continues to weigh on his mind after he was told he was unable to get an insurance premium which covers floods, given his position in the heart of Wagga’s flood zone.
“If we were flooded we would be out of business for months,” Mr Egan said.
“If the levee bank were done maybe we could get insurance that includes floods at a reasonable rate – until then, nothing will happen.”
