The 34-year-old Kooringal man was locked up last Friday, with police claiming he was driving a silver Ford Falcon in Zeigler Avenue two days earlier.
Coghill was granted court bail on Monday, strenuously denying he was the man police saw in the car.
He will defend the charge at a hearing in June.
Solicitor Max Staples told magistrate Erin Kennedy that Coghill “categorically denied” the charge.
“He instructs me he was not in the car on Wednesday; he says he does not have a silver Ford Falcon and does not know anyone with a silver Ford Falcon,” Mr Staples said.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Monique Batterson, opposed Coghill’s bail application, claiming the prosecution case was quite strong.
Ms Kennedy said identity was an issue in the case and in granting bail said she took into account there were no dates for new hearings before June.
That meant Coghill could be in jail for up to four months waiting for a hearing if not granted bail.
If found guilty in June, Coghill will have to serve the remainder of the ICO in jail as well as any penalty given for driving while disqualified.
