The supporter’s comments also follow an online feud about Football Wagga’s ground allocations.
Football Wagga delayed two Pascoe Cup games on Sunday “in the interest of player safety”.
However, the supporter, who has requested anonymity, maintains that playing two or three games of soccer per week could pose a greater risk to the players’ safety than playing one game per week on boggy grounds.
“They cite the fact that it’s slippery and it can cause injuries, but you play to the conditions,” the source said.
“You’re going to have guys who are playing three games in a week. Players aren't fit enough to do that, that’s more of an issue.”
The situation at hand may have a negative financial impact on players and coaches according to the supporter.
“If you’re working in retail or hospitality you take a day off for the game,” the source said. “Then it’s not on and you lose a day’s pay with penalty rates.”
The same workers stand to lose mid-week shifts if they decide to participate in catch-up games.
Small business owners also make sacrifices on the proviso they get to play.
“Blokes who own small businesses leave their small business in someone else’s hands, or completely shut down,” the supporter said.
After a month’s worth of postponed games, spectators are becoming apathetic.
“I’ve already cancelled my Sunday plans to drive to Young and back, but hang on it’s not on,” the source said.
Football Wagga assured The Daily Advertiser that player safety has been its primary consideration during grounds inspections.
