Bob and Pauline Barclay may have retired from Barclay’s Radiator Service and Wagga Car Air Conditioning 20 years ago, but it doesn’t stop the memories flooding back the moment they arrive at the garage.
“The smells are very familiar here,” said Pauline.
“It was such a dirty job; we used to spray radiators up against the wall with little or no protection on; I used to wash my hands with kerosene to get the grime and smell off,” Bob said.
Current owners Jason and Jo Mattingly, along with former owners Bob and Pauline, and their son James and his wife Anne, will today celebrate decades of memories like these as Barclay’s reaches its 70th anniversary in business.
It now joins the ranks as one of the few elite Wagga businesses to make it to the milestone.
In celebration Jason and Jo will host a barbecue on site today for past and present trade and general public customers from noon.

It will not only be a chance for the business and its staff to celebrate its longevity and take a look back at the past and how far the business has come, but an opportunity to thank its customers.
“We are so fortunate to have many loyal customers, some of whom are original customers from Kincaid Street who still see us now,” Jason said.
While the Mattingly’s have only taken on the business within the last 18 months, their dedication to it has been more than 20 years in the making.
Jason started at Barclay’s under the guidance of Bob and James as an apprentice and went on to manage the business for four years before taking ownership.
With a knowledge and love for the business, the Mattingly’s firmly have their sights on improving and growing it further.

While they don’t carry the Barclay name, they are an integral part of the Barclay Radiators family.
“We wish the Mattingly’s every success for the future; we hope they are here for as many years as we were and that they keep the name strong,” Bob said.
