NEW LOOK: Danny Russell will open a new Big Bite Kebabs shop in the next couple of weeks at 96 Fitzmaurice Street.

ONE of Wagga's well-known addresses, 96 Fitzmaurice Street, is getting a new name and losing an old stigma when Big Bite Kebabs moves into the site which has held a long history in the city.Ninety-six Fitzmaurice Street has been known as a bar in Wagga for almost 30 years and for the first time in its colouful career the address will be a place for late-night food rather than late-night drinks. The new sandwich and kebab shop will open before the end of March and new owner, Danny Russell is excited at the opportunity to take over the site and bring a new flavour to the northern end of the CBD."Since we have told people we bought the shop we've heard , 'oh you've got the old gay bar, or truckies bar, or the bikies bar - so this place has a fair bit of history in Wagga," he said. Most recently the building was reopened as Lucido Tapas Bar about a year ago, until last December when Mr Russell heard "on the grapevine" that the owners were selling, so he jumped at the chance to buy the store."We will be turning it into a sandwich and kebab shop for the professionals working in the area during the week, and probably get the late-nighters at the weekend," Mr Russell said. The store will be open Thursday until Sunday to start off with, and once business is up and running Big Bite Kebabs will extend trading hours to meet the community demand."There is a lot of history and possibly a bit of stigma with the store being a bit dark and dingy," he said."But we have opened up the whole shop, brightened it, and freshened it up."
