THE INTERPRETER: Sally Lean has worked in China for eight years and has been appointed as an interpreter for Channel 7 Australia for the Beijing Olympic Games.

FORMER Wagga resident Sally Lean is going to the Beijing Olympic Games, but she won’t be competing for gold.Ms Lean has lived in China for the last eight years, and she has recently been appointed by Channel 7 as an interpreter at the Olympics.She is currently the head of the Chinese language program for international schools and an organiser of a major conference that has become the leading professional development opportunity for Chinese language teachers in Asia.Also heading to the games is Wagga triathlete Brad Kahlefeldt, who was recently named in the Australian Olympic team.Ms Lean said living in Beijing has been fast-paced, and she said she was thrilled to be part of the Olympics.“This is certainly a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity,” she said.Ms Lean said she will not continue to teach Chinese after the games finish, and plans to study and do consulting work for international schools.
