The kindergarten teacher was last month presented with a Quality Teaching Award at a special ceremony in Deniliquin along with seven other recipients from across the Riverina.Mrs Kane, who has been teaching children in Henty for 15 years, received her Bachelor of Education degree from Charles Sturt University in Wagga and was a recipient of two The Daily Advertiser scholarships that helped her to complete her studies and become an award winning teacher. “The Advertiser scholarships were a fantastic help in covering the cost of my uni expenses,” Mrs Kane said.“They helped me purchase a computer and various text books needed for the degree.”While very humble about her achievement, Mrs Kane said is was lovely to be recognised for her efforts.“I’m extremely proud of the award but very surprised to be awarded it,” she said. “It’s pretty special to be recognised, and to be nominated by the school principal was heart warming.”Mrs Kane has been teaching full time at Henty Public School for six years, and according to school principal Gail Driscoll, she is a wonderful asset.“Theresa deserves every accolade. She has a fantastic ability to enthuse children into wanting to learn,” Mrs Driscoll said.“She is passionate about her job and her children love learning with her.“I appreciate everything she does for her students and the school and is a top notch quality teacher.”
