The former captain-coach injured himself in the first hit up of the Bulls win over Albury on Sunday and scans have revealed damage to his medial ligament.
The 30-year-old is in a knee brace but the exact time frame for his return is still unknown.
“I’m just in a brace at the moment but it’s probably anywhere from two to six weeks out,” Skinner said.
“It just depends on how it heals.”
Skinner is no stranger to knee injuries but one piece of good news is the new complaint has nothing to do with the serious knee injury that ended the 2015 season.
“It has nothing on when I did my other knee but that is for sure,” he said.
“I’m pretty positive, I just have to do the rehab to get it right.”
However the timing of the complaint could be better.
Not only did Skinner welcome son Joey into the world last week, but was really starting to feel back to his best after rupturing his patella tendon three seasons ago.
“With the issue I had with my other knee it has taken few years to get a bit of spring back into my step,” Skinner said.
“I was just starting to feel pretty good but that is footy.
“It comes with it sometimes I guess.”
Josh Cochrane has come into the front row to tackle Young at Alfred Park on Sunday.
Southcity captain-coach Kyle McCarthy was impressed with how the young forward stepped up last week when Skinner went down early.
Nathan Rose also comes back into the team, joining McCarthy in the halves, while Riley Flint has been named for his first game in the top grade this season.
The Cherrypickers are yet to win this season, and the Bulls are yet to lose, but Skinner is very wary of the trip north.
“They do have a good forward pack and I think it is a bit of a danger game,” he said.
“They’ve obviously not had a win yet so they will be pretty keen to get up.
“They still have the same sort of squad as last year so it might only be a matter of time before they start to click a bit more.”
