Artist Allan McKenzie ran a three day workshop this school holidays to teach the 11 Aborigines, ranging from age 10 to early 20’s, about their culture and the importance of knowing your history.
“I hope they become future role models and keep their culture alive,” he said.
“They’ve spent a while learning about the didgeridoo, understanding why we made them and the history of our ancestors.”
Mr McKenzie said it was an “amazing experience” and an honour to be accepted by the young group.
The group spent three days painting and learning how to play the didgeridoo from scratch.
Thirteen-year-old Maleek Timbery said he couldn’t wait to play his new didgeridoo at home.
