Wagga’s industrial region is a step closer to housing a $150 million solar farm after Australian renewable energy provider Renew Estate submitted preliminary applications to the state government earlier this week.

It follows the approval for a $150 million solar farm in Hay last week, adding to a string of large-scale solar farms blossoming across the Riverina.
An application from Global Solar Farms valued at $2.5 million was given the green light in September and is set to occupy a Jersey Street lot in Bomen near Southern Cross Energy’s $18 million solar farm development.
More than seven farms have been recently approved by the state government and further developments are reportedly planned for the Wagga area.
Council reported in November that it had been inundated with applications for prospective solar farm developers, with Wagga mayor Cr Greg Conkey advocating the push for renewable energy in the region.
