“While Christmas is enjoyed by many, it is not enjoyed by all. I encourage people not to give themselves a hard time if they can't get into the spirit. Everyone is different,” gambling help counsellor at Wagga Family Support Services Julie McDermott said.
“Christmas is one day; the remaining 364 days are important too. Don't invest more in Christmas than you can realistically afford and then as a result struggle for the remaining 364 days.
“Make sure you have some enjoyable stress reducing activities that don't have the possibility of causing you more stress within themselves, such as excess drinking or gambling.
Julie Meecham from the Wagga Women’s Health Centre said mental health issues can make Christmas a stressful, painful and sometimes dangerous time.
“Look out for family, friends and neighbours and seek help if you have any concerns for someone’s safety,” she said.
