The up-and-coming young gloveman completed four brilliant stumpings and a catch in the Brookers’ tenacious win over TRYC at Holbrook.
Heriots effort is a Holbrook cricket club record beating Jock Harbison who stumped three batsmen against Yerong Creek in 1994/95 season.
It also equals the Holbrook DCA record of Henty’s John Ellis who completed four stumpings against TRYC in 2002/03 season.
Heriot’s five dismissals in an innings elevates him alongside three other keepers as the most dismissals in an innings by a Holbrook wicketkeeper – Alan Juskiw v Culcairn 1985/86, David Morton v MCU also in 1985/86 and Neale Taylor who took five catches in Holbrook’s 1987/88 grand final victory over Culcairn.
The HDCA record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper belongs to Woomargama’s Colin Gilbert 1966/67 v Cookardinia and Culcairn’s Billy Williams 1987/88 v Henty.
Holbrook gave its finals chances a huge boost when it defeated top of the ladder TRYC at the Holbrook Sportsground.
After being sent into bat the Brookers batted with much improved commitment and despite the low score on a slow outfield they won by 16 runs.
Captain Hamish Mackinlay played a superb skipper knock compiling a patient 55 to dominate the Brookers final score of 7/121.
Corey McCarthy gave excellent support making 19, while opener Coby Ross was the only other player to make double figures with 10.
All the TRYC bowlers bowled with great economy and gave little away with just one wide and one no ball.
Jack Driscoll 3/22 and Oscar Willis 3/21 were the pick, with good support from Ryan Kirkwood, Col Hagen and Reju Raphel.
The visitor’s run chase started in good fashion with Driscoll (27) and Kirkwood (30) moving the total along to 1/68 before the wickets tumbled.
The accuracy of the Holbrook attack eventually took its toll on the Two Blues with over 25 per cent of the overs being maidens.
The pace attack of Hamish Mackinlay 4/10 off seven and Bailey Parker 1/11 off eight overs shook up the visitor’s middle and lower order dismissing them for 105.
Ben Jones finished off the innings superbly taking his best first grade figures of 4/22, combining superbly with Heriot in his record breaking day out.
** Thanks and appreciation to James D Ross for his compiling of Holbrook District Cricket Association and club records.
