Ellie Dalgarno-Fixter starred with the ball to hand ACT/NSW Country a dramatic win in under 18s national championships final.

The Coolamon bowler claimed 4-21 off her 10 overs to help her team to one-win wicket over NSW Metro in the 50-over match in Canberra on Thursday.

ACT/NSW Country chased down the 85 needed to win with one wicket and two overs to spare.

It came just a day after Dalgarno-Fixter picked up five wickets in the win over South Australia.

ACT/NSW Country only made it into the final on run rate and captain Rachel Trenaman credited Dalgarno-Fixter’s effort as crucial to ensuring the team booked a place against NSW Metro in the final.

“She bowled extremely well and her performance was basically what got us into the final in the first place,” she said. “To come out and get take four big wickets was outstanding on her behalf.”

Dalgarno-Fixter finished as the tournament’s leading wicket taker with 15 dismissals at 8.47.

Trenaman was in the top five performers with the bat, scoring 212 runs at plus taking six wickets at 11.80.

Trenaman was thrilled with how the team continued to fight in order to down their state counterparts for the first time during the two-week tournament.

“We lost in the round game and the T20 final to Metro so to finally get one up on them is fantastic,” she said.

The Wagga teenager is now of to tackle the nation’s best cricketers with the Women’s Big Bash starting on Saturday.
