NOTHING says Australia like a barbecue in the park, or while camping, on a fishing trip, or out caravanning with family and friends and a new product available in the Riverina is perfect for such gatherings.
The Smith’s BBQs 3-in-1 portable barbecue provides three portable cooking options – solid plate, grilling and as a pizza oven.
At just 14kg, the 3-in-1 is ideal to take anywhere. Hand-finished and welded in polished stainless steel, company owner John Smith said it was also perfect for apartments with small outdoor areas.
“Barbecuing is known as a male domain, but I think things are changing; this barbecue is for everyone,” Mr Smith said. “This is a stylish product that is a good cooking accessory. We’re trying to break away from ‘tradition’. The lightness is great, it’s portable and easy to fit in the car or back of the ute.”
A carry bag is available that fits the barbecue, grilling plate and a pizza stone.
The standard Inlander 3-in-1 portable barbecue produces even heat distribution, perfect for searing steaks or producing crisp pizzas on the 12-inch pizza stone, as well as being great for cast barbecue plate cooking.
“Cooking pizzas is amazing,” Mr Smith said. “Depending on the thickness of the base and the toppings, it takes eight to 10 minutes for the stone to heat up and about five minutes to cook the pizza.”
There is also a portable pizza oven with oven-like performance suitable for roasts, chickens and larger meats.

The 3-in-1 will be available through some appliance outlets and camping stores in the Riverina/MIA.
“The Smith’s high quality barbecues will also be on display through a network of quality butcher stores,” Mr Smith said.
“If you want a good cut of meat, you go to a butcher. I feel my line of barbecues are a perfect compliment to the butcher’s quality meat. It makes perfect sense putting them together.”
Business enters alfresco market
JOHN Smith has a background in appliances and created Smith’s Cooking Systems in July 2000.
An Australian design and manufacturing company, it makes high quality stainless steel and metal products for leading European and Japanese appliance brands for the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Mr Smith came across the stainless steel portable barbecues in his role as a consultant for leading Italian appliance brand, while looking for a range of alfresco products.
His industry experience led to the “smart barbecue concept”, recognising the need for a high quality, lightweight barbecue. The creation of Smith’s BBQs meant a new direction for the business, entering the barbecue, grill and alfresco market.
Mr Smith is also a part owner of Ausgrills, the Australian and New Zealand distributor of TEC Infrared barbecues. These are self-cleaning, gas infrared cooking systems.
“It’s so different to any other grill in the market,” Mr Smith said.
