It follows a ruling from Monday’s ordinary council meeting to endorse a new series of fees at Wagga airport despite multiple public submissions protesting the changes.
Former Lockhart Shire councillor and pilot Jim Morgan penned one of the six letters published in the ordinary meeting agenda and was stunned by council’s subsequent endorsement.
“They’ve managed to not implement parking fees for the last 60 years and the airport’s done alright,” he said.
“Why would you deter the visiting public from coming in now?”
Mr Morgan said he supported the proposed reinstatement of landing fees and other costs but was left disappointed by the “lack of due consideration from council”.
“Why would the general public even make another submission if council’s just going to rubber-stamp everything?”
Former Wagga City Aero Club president John Smith said the decision would cripple revenue streams from aviation tourism.
“There are a lot of general aviation pilots around who would just love to come and visit Wagga but this will be another deterrent,” he said.
”This decision is detrimental to tourism in Wagga.”
