Domestic violence liaison officer, Senior Constable Lee Matthews, wants women enduring domestic violence to know that they are not alone.
“Sometimes people might feel like going to the police is not the right thing to do, but they need to come forward because we can help,” Senior Constable Matthews said.
“We can put them in charge with support agencies and we can try to stop the violence.”
Senior Constable Matthews was one of a number of police officers and other guests who visited Mount Austin Public School during a special even to mark the annual White Ribbon Day.
Betty Egan, southern region domestic violence co-ordinator, commended the school for its support of the annual event.
“Your school shows continued commitment to stop violence against women and the way that you do that is by talking about it, by breaking the silence,” she said.
