A Mount Austin man has narrowly avoided jail time after he was caught stealing a bag with $1000 worth of gym equipment from a victim’s car.

But according to documents tendered to the court, Mark John Carney didn’t get far, throwing the bag while being chased down by the victim on November 21.
The incident was less than three months after Carney was caught driving with methamphetamine and delta-9 in his system.
The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to larceny, driving with an illicit drug and not complying with police directions in Wagga Local Court this week.
Carney was sentenced to two concurrent seven-month suspended prison sentences.
He was also disqualified from driving for nine months and fined $400.
