The girls are trying out rugby league as part of a nine-a-side women’s gala day at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday.
Gabe Knight is among those leading the charge.
She believes it is a good opportunity to try something new.
“It’s a challenge,” Knight said.
“We’ve been playing leaguetag for six or so years now and wanted to step it up a little bit more.
“We wanted to try with the contact.”
While the team is playing under the Kangaroos banner there is a real mix throughout.
Gundagai’s Linley Jones and Temora’s Sophie Gaynor are also part of the team while they’ve also recruited from the rugby sevens ranks.
“It’s definitely a combination with a few union girls and a few girls from out of town,” Knight said.
“I think there is only three Roos girls to be honest, but we are playing in Roos gear, and we’ve found people everywhere.”
Kangaroos are in the open division but there is also events for under 14s and under 16s.
Albury, Yenda and Tullibigeal Lakes United are among the womens team entered as well.
The event is Wagga is the first of a series across the Riverina in the coming weeks.
