Hamilton went down in a thrilling finish to national champion James Fowler, while Tim Nash finished third.
Hamilton put up a mighty fight in defeat with a slip of his foot off the pedal with 100 metres to go proving costly.
Hamilton’s 13-year-old daughter, Zara, also raced the penny farthings. Lizanne Wilmot, winner of the women’s wheel race, also competed.
It backed up Hamilton’s second placing at the nationals in Tasmania.
The NSW State Penny Farthing Championships were held in Wagga for the first time and run in conjunction with Wagga’s Golden Wheel Track Carnival.
Wagga Cycling Club official Paul Wright declared the championships a resounding success.
“It was perfect. We were tinkled pink,” Wright said.
