Colour, movement and nature are the three main elements which inspire award-winning artist Jenny Newbound to paint.
The Wagga artist has been in love with art for as long as she can remember.
When she was at school all her books were highly decorated in bright colours and her love for creating art never left her.
Today Jenny is a professional artist who also teaches, judges and appears as a guest artist.
She has many loyal students who will travel for hours to be involved in her classes.
However, with Jenny and Alan’s plan to move to the Sunshine coast it may be a little far for them to follow.
The move has also triggered a reduction sale of many art pieces.
Jenny was trained in oils and works in all mediums but has moved mainly to water based, mixed media and collage.
Looking at her colourful work will give you an insight into her passions. The subject matter is very mixed but always relates to nature with subjects including flowers, birds and landscapes.

“My inspiration comes from my surroundings, I love nature,” Jenny said.
“I feel getting outside connects me with nature and is good for my soul.”
When it comes to her two favourite mediums her approach to each is slightly different.
“With water colour I keep it lively, fresh and loose,” Jenny said.
“In mixed media it’s all about building up the layers for textual surfaces.
“My work isn’t traditional and it isn’t abstract, it’s somewhere in between at a contemporary level.
“I’m not too mechanical, I begin with an approach and see where it ends, I allow the paint it’s own way.”
Jenny’s work is proudly displayed in homes around the country with some dedicated collectors buying a new piece every couple of years.
Her work has also been in exhibitions overseas including Germany, New York and New Zealand.
To view Jenny’s work visit her studio at 23 Barrington Street Tatton this weekend from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
