Days after wrapping up an Australian Hockey League campaign which thoroughly impressed his Canberra Lakers coaches, the 19-year-old has secured a spot on the under-21 Australian team heading to the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia later this month.
Martin said he was thrilled to be selected.
“It’s a proud moment for me, I’m very excited,” he said.
“I was in the initial squad so I knew I was a chance, but you’re always a bit unsure until its officially announced.”
The talented teenager departs for Malaysia on Monday, just a week after wrapping up an AHL campaign which saw him play nine games in 10 days.
But don’t expect the quick turnaround to trouble Martin.
“I actually prefer going straight from tournament to tournament,” he said.
“You’re more finely tuned that way.”
