NOT much happening on the fishing front over the past couple of weeks so it’s going to be short and sweet this weekend.

I did manage to head down the river for a fish last Sunday when I ventured down to the Five Mile near Narrandera. I went down with all my mates - so I went by myself – took the trusty jet outboard.
I did make sure, using the “Water Live” app on my phone that the water was still shallow and I even took the Garmin Vibe camera to get some good footage.
Note to self, batteries require charging on cameras before use, so alas no footage.
I will try and paint a picture with words so close your eyes and imagine this … OK, OK, open them back up and read this. Backed the boat in at the boat ramp, not one other boat to be seen so I had the river all to myself on a beautiful spring day, only a slight breeze gently caressing the river, temperature at around the 26 degrees. I thought I would head up stream, turned the camera on, positioned on the motor cowl set it all up, set the blue tooth up on the phone and thought what’s this little red light flashing, you the one that tells you the battery is all but flat, so took it off the motor and put it back in the bag and took off, up on the plane, trimmed the motor out a bit and hit 48kph.
I travelled up stream, still no other boats to be seen, picked out a snag and cast a purple Mud Guts Spinner bait, on about the four cast the line suddenly stopped and yes, I had caught the infamous stick fish.
Retrieved the lure and want to the next snag, then the next, had a couple of tentative hits but that was all.
I threw a worm out and within about a minute the rod tip bucked a bit and then had a lovely curve in it and in came a 38cm yella, a quick photo and back in the water to fight another day. Another worm on and bent over to grab my drink and back on again, this time it was a bit livelier and a bit heavier on the line and after a short battle a 48cm cod – I know it’s out of season so a quick release and all was sweet. I was only planning a couple of hour trip so high tailed it back to the boat ramp and back home, a very pleasing day on the river, didn’t get up early, and didn’t have to rush around. This weekend, grab your boat and head off to the river, there are worse thing you could be doing.

LAST week I mentioned that David Warby is going to go pretty bloody fast on Blowering this weekend, I don’t know about the weather this weekend and if he will be able to get a go but if you are not going down the river fishing if the weather is OK, head up to Blowering and you might just see a bit of history. Also if he I going to play, Blowering will be “closed” at certain times of the day so you be asked to be off the water during these times.
