Despite just falling short in the decider, Obst capped off a big season for CSU by being named the Alicia Quirk Medal winner.
Obst was judged as the best player in the women’s sevens competition but the young gun was her individual recognition was due to a strong team approach this season.
“I definitely would have not got it without the team,” Obst said. “It was such a team effort and every week we put our hearts into it, did it for each other and that is why we were so successful.”
Going down 32-27 in extra-time, Obst could not have been prouder of the effort the team put in against Leeton
“They have just put in so much heart and soul into that game, we trained so well for it and while it is so disappointing we are just one big family and I couldn’t be prouder of the girls,” she said.
Obst just held on to defeat Leeton’s Rebecca Vaughan by two votes.
Vaughan trailed by three votes coming into the final round and polled two votes in the Dianas win over Wagga City.
However with Obst earning one in the win over Griffith, Vaughan couldn’t get past her.
It is just the second year the medal was been played for.
Tumut’s Tara Arnall finished in a share for fourth, four points off Obst after becoming the inaugural winner last year.
Wagga City’s Terri-Ann Cain was the run away leader to start the second and managed to hold on for third despite missing most of the year.
