Litany of literary characters parade at Kooringal PublicSchool Book Week parade

From Harry Potter to the Wizard of Oz and footballing legends to oversized crayons, the magic of books came to life at Kooringal Public School.

The students embraced this year’s Book Week theme of Escape to Everywhere, school librarian Winsome Cox said.

“The children took on the challenge and escaped into books,” Ms Cox said.

It was not just the pupils who relished the chance to dress up as their favourite character.

Principal Grant Beard dressed as Elvis Presley to lead the staff parade.

Ms Cox said children’s classics from The Wizard of Oz to the Harry Potter series had been popular, but other books, including Bad Case of Stripes and The Day the Crayons Quit, also made an appearance in the parade, alongside Where’s Wally, a team of assorted football legends and adventurers from the Bear Grylls series.
