A courageous series of reports detailing allegations against former Wagga City Council general manager Alan Eldridge has been recognised with journalist Jack Morphet being awarded one of the industry's highest accolades.

On Friday night Mr Morphet was named Young Journalist of the Year and was also awarded the gong for Best Regional Reporting at The Kennedy Awards.

In accepting the two awards at the prestigious ceremony in Sydney, Mr Morphet said the DA had given him the opportunity to spend many hours researching and writing these articles which was essential given its complex nature.

South-West NSW group managing editor Paul McLoughlin said Mr Morphet's passion for journalism was his greatest strength.

"He is a determined professional, driven to tell the stories that matter to communities.

Mr Morphet's awards continue a proud tradition for The Daily Advertiser which has figured prominently in recent years.
