More than four years after his last success, Ohokas Roman finally returned to winning ways at Wagga on Tuesday night.

Leading all the way, Ohokas Roman held off the challenge of Navajo Rocky to win by by a half head.

Wagga trainer Peter Menz has had plenty of trouble with the rising 10-year-old, but believes he’s perfected a winning recipe after reverting to a high protein, high fat diet with little carbohydrates to deal with tying up.

After a second last week, Menz thought the writing was on the wall.

“He never gave up and that’s what I liked about him this week,” Menz said.

It was also a special win for driver Matt Harrington after the death of his grandfather Peter Harrington on Sunday.
