In a statement released to the media, Cr Firman said he wanted to address the speculation once and for all.
“I have been, quite literally, overwhelmed with telephone calls and visits from people both locally and across the region, urging me to put my hand up as a candidate for the seat of Cootamundra,” he said.
“This has meant a great deal to me, to have the confidence of people whom I respect very deeply.”
Cr Firman said he had seriously considered standing as a candidate, but felt a stronger tie to the Temora Shire.
“I have found local government truly is the best form of government for me to be involved with,” Cr Firman said.
“We can see directly what we are achieving for our community, listen to their praise or the ‘kicks in the pants’ we might receive… we are directly ‘in touch’ with the citizens we serve, which is very important to me.
“Whoever is elected to eventually replace Ms Hodgkinson, will certainly have rather large boots to fill.”
