While Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) urges a decision has not yet been reached, it has agreed to circulate a survey throughout the community for further feedback on “reintroducing” the Wagga Base Hospital name.
In the wake of the new development, Ms Pierce said she is “as happy as a pig in mud”.
“I’ll have a bottle of champagne ready outside the hospital when they change it,” she said.
“It’s not set in cement but they told me they will change it back in a couple of months, when they go through the right processes. It’s up to the taxpayers to name the hospital, not the bureaucrats in Sydney – and that’s what we’ve wanted to happen.”
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard wrote to Ms Pierce and Wagga MP Daryl Maguire, complimenting their initiative in the matter.
As a result of MLHD’s decision to consider a change, Ms Pierce will no longer collect signatures on her petition.
“I got over 4000 hard copy signatures in the end,” she said. “I didn’t realise Wagga had so many beautiful, community-minded people until now.”
