The silent killer is one of the most dangerous mental illnesses, according to National Rural Health Alliance chair Russell Roberts.
“It’s one of the mental illnesses that have the most physical health effects,” he said.
“There’s quite a high rate of mortality.”
It comes as Charles Sturt Unversity (CSU) launched the national Equally Well initiative, aimed at providing people with equal access to quality health care for the treatment of mental illness.
Mr Roberts is also a professor at CSU and said the conversation opens a myriad of doors on implementing access schemes for mental health services in rural and regional NSW.
