It is understood a threat was made in Kooringal, with police on scene cordoning off the area around Ziegler Avenue and Berala Street around 11am.
A command post has been established and it is understood the bomb squad is en route from Sydney.
Police are joined by NSW Ambulance and NSW Fire and Rescue crews at the scene.
Wagga’s bus company, Busabout, was contacted by police to find alternative routes ahead of school peak time with bus services already being disrupted.
