After stating she never thought she would make an Australian team, Layhnee’s under 17 Aussies made it through the eight-game tournament undefeated, despite going up against a variety of under 19 teams.
They were declared winners of the tournament after an unlikely downpour wiped out the finals stage of the competition.
The Mount Austin High School student said the international competition was an invaluable experience.
“It was such a big step up from Wagga softball, and even Riverina softball,” Layhnee, 16, said.
“It was the biggest competition I’ve ever played in.”
Layhnee has also secured a spot at next month’s state camp in a bid to make the NSW under 17 team.
