FRESH from one drought-breaking premiership, Leeton-Whitton assistant coach Daniel Muir is happy with how the Crows are tracking in his first season at the club.

The Crows’ Tasmanian connection was strengthened earlier this year when Muir and Matt Rainbird moved to Leeton to join their good mates at Leeton.
Muir played in Glenorchy’s maiden state league premiership last year and the Crows will be hoping that kind of experience can rub off as the Crows look to end their own drought come September.
Muir was not willing to talk premierships at the halfway mark of the season, but he is happy with how Leeton-Whitton is shaping up heading towards the business end of the year.
“I know it’s an old cliche but we’re just taking it one week at a time,” Muir said.
“We’re coming along nicely. Having so many new players, it was always going to take a while to gel but we’re coming along a lot better than I thought we would at this stage.
“We’ve still got a bit of improvement there. It will be interesting to see how we go this week coming off the bye.”
The Crows won four straight games heading into the bye, enough to get them into third spot on the Riverina League ladder at the halfway mark.
They kick off the second half of the year with a home game against neighbours, Griffith, at Leeton Showground on Saturday.
The Crows beat the Swans by three goals in the season opener at Exies Oval in April. Muir expects another serious challenge.
“I expect it’s going to be hard,” he said.
“I’m aware they’re like our cross-town rivals, arch enemies, and last time they played some pretty good footy in patches, similar to us.
“It should be another good, hard game.”
Muir, 29, has played a number of different roles up forward for the Crows since his arrival. He has kicked 28 goals from his first eight games and has started to find a home deep in attack in recent weeks.
“I was a bit slow taking off, trying to get used to new surroundings and a new team. I’m starting to tick along a bit better now but there’s still room for improvement,” Muir said.
“The last few weeks I’ve started at full-forward but we’ve been rotating a fair bit. It depends a lot on match ups, that’s the whole idea of it.”
Muir has joined a lot of former teammates at Leeton-Whitton, including his best mates Bryce O’Garey and Ben Curley.
“Having so many Tassie fellas around, I think there is six of us now, has made the transition easy,” he said.
“It’s been good, I love it.”
Fresh from the bye, the Crows expect to be close to full-strength for the important showdown with Griffith.
