Domestic violence is impacting hundreds of people in Wagga and thousands across the country. Despite the large number of people impacted, Wagga as a community is only just becoming aware of the issue.
Residents in Wagga are less likely to intervene or report domestic violence (89 per cent) compared to the Australian average (98 per cent). Currently Wagga has a vague awareness of the issue and is moving towards the preplanning stage.

What can you do to help stop this terrifying trend?
- “Just listen.” Listening to victims and being there for them is the first step towards them getting help.
- Raise awareness. Despite confronting statistics, a recent survey revealed that many people do not see domestic violence as a major issue. The more people know about it the more help can be provided.
- Challenge sexist behaviour, language, jokes or stereotypes, sexual harassment and seeing women as objects
- Take action: call the police if you see or hear something. Domestic Violence is a crime NOT a private matter.
- Examine your behavior. Do you have a healthy relationship based on respect and equality? Do you use power to control your partner?
