A neighbourhood dispute turned ugly about 5pm when an allegedly intoxicated 55-year-old man became embroiled in a standoff with a 39-year-old man living nearby.
Police claim the alleged crook then rushed into his home, seized a knife from his kitchen and took to the streets, threatening onlookers.
The 39-year-old and another witness proceeded to grab the man and wrestle the blade from his grip.
He was detained for a short period before officers from Wagga Local Area Command arrived and made the arrest.
Inspector Peter McLay said it was extremely fortunate nobody was hurt or seriously injured.
“We don’t encourage residents to take people on who are armed with knives, but to their credit they managed to disarm him in this instance,” he said.
“Those involved were known to each other and we are treating this as an isolated incident.”
He was charged with being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
