Dyer will play his former club Leeton for the first time at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday.
The Phantoms are flying high, undefeated so far this season, while Wagga City sit third but are coming off a surprise loss to Tumut last week.
Before that they’d only lost the grand final rematch with Waratahs to start the season and Dyer is hopeful they can bounce back against his former teammates.
There has been plenty of changes since Dyer left the club following a preliminary final loss to the Boiled Lollies last season.
Leeton has a new coach in Marika Vunibaka and plenty of new faces and despite that he’s looking forward to taking on the Phantoms.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on the results, having played there the last couple of years and it is good to see them do well, but playing for City this year I want to do well here,” Dyer said.
“When you step across the line all friendships are off and you go out there to win.
“After the game it is a different story, you go out, have a beer and what happens on the field stays on the field.”
The 28-year-old was one of Leeton’s best in his two years at the club before deciding against another season on travel.
Working in Wagga, Dyer had been travelling to Leeton and train and play, however he’s quickly found a new home with Wagga City.
“It's been a great club to get involved with,” he said.
“Everyone has been really welcoming, easy to get along with and it’s a good group of guys and good group of coaches as well.
“The travel factor has been a bit of a positive as well
“The work-life balance has been a little bit easier with not travelling as much not only for training but having the games here in Wagga as well.
“It was a bit part of the decision to play for City.”
Dyer didn't think the team had the right intensity against the Bulls and is hoping they can quickly turn things around.
“It was one of those weeks were we didn’t come out and perform as we know we can,” he said. “It’s not back to the drawing board but more back to training this week.
“We had a good, hard training session on Tuesday night and I'm sure again on Thursday as we look to bounce back and play the way we know that we can and continue to build towards the end of the year.”
Wagga City also welcomes back Rory Sheard.
Dyer believes the flanker’s return is a bonus for the club.
“He leads the guys around, his work rate is phenomenal so having him back is definitely a plus,” he said.
Dyer believes making the first-up tackles will limit’s opportunity to continue their impressive pointscoring feats this season.
