Rushby entered his plea when he was arraigned in Wagga District Court on Friday, avoiding a painful trial for his family.
His solicitor, David Barron, asked Judge Phillip Mahony to stand the case over to the District Court sittings beginning July 24 for sentence, allowing time for the preparation of a pre-sentence report by Community Corrections and reports by counsellors.
Rushby was driving an unregistered Ford Falcon sedan along Vincent Road just after 2pm on April 17 last year when he lost control of the vehicle.
The car overturned a number of times and crashed into a tree.
Stephen, 13, was a passenger in the car.
He suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
