Shanna Brill said gratitude wasn’t always voiced or necessary but International Nurses Day, celebrated on Friday, was a nice way to be thanked.
Ms Brill said watching sick and injured residents get better and eventually leave the hospital was the best part of her job.
“It’s hearing people’s stories and getting to know them,” Ms Brill said. “Then it’s the satisfaction of seeing them walk back out the door.”
Ms Brill said became a nurse thirteen years ago with a desire to make a difference and to “help people” – the same as her colleagues.
“That’s why most of us go into this role,” she said. “We all just want to make a difference.”
She said it was the patients and the people she worked with that kept her passion strong.
Ms Brill said for some, the family-life balance could be a challenge but she said trying to spread her time across all her patients was her biggest hurdle as a nurse.
