They said a lack of federal funding was to blame for an inadequate number of legal professionals across the board.
Riverina MP Michael McCormack said he previously raised the issue with the Attorney General and would again when both houses sat to discuss the upcoming budget on Tuesday.
Mr McCormack said he would “see what could be done” to address the issue, described by legal experts as “gut-wrenching”.
Wagga family-law solicitors Kristan Somerville and Linda Hansen said kids could be caught in the middle of broken relationships for years, remaining in limbo until a judge settled the custody feud.
They said proceedings were emotionally and financially draining for everyone.
