The Lions started strongly but were not able to match the Demons’ intensity over four quarters as the visitors ran away with the game, 21.7 (133) to 8.11 (59) at Ganmain Sportsground.
Collingullie-GP kicked the last 11 goals of the game, as Marc Geppert celebrated his return to the Riverina League with a nine-goal haul.
Gestier was relieved to get the monkey off his back.
“It’s fantastic. As I just said to the boys, we hadn’t had a game in five or six weeks so it was a great unknown,” Gestier said.
“To Ganmain’s credit, they brought pressure, we knew they were going to bring that and early days we didn’t react well but once we settled we were a much better side.
“Our ball movement and what we’ve been working on at training was exactly what we wanted to bring to the table and when we did it, we moved it well and it looked good.”
Riley Corbett was outstanding for GGGM with six goals, while Zac Wiencke and Glenn Sypott had good debuts for the Lions.
Jayden Klemke and Jimmy Kennedy were good for the Demons through the midfield.
