Rugby, Australian rules and golf are among the sports to be contested.
Southern Inland Rugby Union teams will feature for the first time with CSU, Waratahs and Leeton among 16 teams in the men’s rugby 10s competition.
Waratahs and CSU will also field women’s sevens teams, playing Kapooka and ADFA.
The AFL 12s competition will see Kapooka staff compete against local teams CSU, East Wagga-Kooringal, Holbrook and The Rock-Yerong Creek.
AFL spokesman Lieutenant Robert Cameron said the team had not played together but is looking forward to a great day of competition.
“Our side has varying ages and experiences, but one thing we have in common is a strong enjoyment for physical competition and a will to be great hosts to the people of Wagga, whose continuing support for our work out here at Kapooka is greatly appreciated,” Lieutenant Cameron said.
Commanding Officer of Kapooka’s 1St Recruit Training Battalion, Lieutenant-Colonel Elizabeth Stephens, says the base is excited not only for the competition, but also to reinforce long standing connections with the Riverina community.
“It’s a great opportunity in a light hearted environment to bring our military and the civilian population together,” Lieutenant-Colonel Stephens said
“From a Kapooka perspective I could not say exactly which sport we are likely to do best in but I do know that all the teams are coming together to do their best and enjoy the opportunity to play some sport together, against other units and importantly support the local community to get on base and have a go too,” she said.
Members of the public will be able to access Kapooka’s sporting fields via the base’s front gate.
The matches get underway at 8.30am with the Aussie rules finals expected at 1pm and the rugby finale at 5pm.
