New details have emerged about the wild affray that left a 26-year-old man unconscious and with serious head lacerations.
It is now believed that up to five people traded blows inside Anatolia Kebabs on Baylis Street about 1.30am.
Detectives have released CCTV footage from the night in order to identify more witnesses.
Inspector Peter Robertson said the series of events that unfolded inside the Turkish kebab delicatessen have yet to be confirmed.
“We still need to fill in some blanks,” he said.
“Police have spoken to people involved and nearby and we are in need of further information.
“At this stage, we don’t believe the people were known to each other.
“We know furniture, including a table, were used as weapons during the assault.”
The Baylis Street vision shows several customers leaving the fast-food store and fleeing the scene.
Inspector Robertson believes they may help police put together the missing pieces.
“More people know what happened that night and we need them to come forward,” he said.
Two more diners – another 26-year-old man and a woman – were also treated by paramedics at the scene.
Wagga police commander Bob Noble told The Daily Advertiser on Sunday that police were tackling the incident with the utmost seriousness.
“It was a bit of a wild show apparently,” Superintendent Noble said.
“The victim was unable to speak until this morning – now that he’s in a satisfactory condition.
“This is a serious assault where we believe alcohol was a factor.”
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 666 or Wagga police on 6922 2659.
