Player of the grand final Rachel Trenaman has not committed, heavily involved in semi-professional cricket, goalkeeper Danika Sadleir bowed out, with plans to move away, attacking mid Danielle Plummer and defender Hannah Schultz retired, striker Charlee McPherson and winger Natalie Creed have not committed yet, defender Grace di Trapani will play in Canberra’s Premier League, winger Morgan Purdie has defected to South Wagga, and holding mid Bronte Buik, winger Brooke Gayler and back Steph Armstrong may return after a pre-season stint with Wagga City Wanderers, a team that has folded.
Henwood Park coach Peter Adams will enter a squad in the Leonard Cup, but, unless he gets an influx of players, the Hawks will not have a reserve grade side.
Tolland’s numbers remain strong, with enough players to field two quality sides.
Coach Sam Gray has stepped down, and Annette Parkinson assumed the role.
Parkinson has lost Leonard Cup Player of the Year Lauren Rouse-Upjohn and back Louise Stott to defence force duties and will lose forward Olivia Tannock midway through the season.
Bernadette Blake will come out of retirement.
“She’s a big asset, one of the best players the women’s competition has seen,” Parkinson said.
Junee coach Adrian Weir has replaced Craig Duncan, inheriting a formidable squad.
Weir said the club will nominate two teams this season, but he did not reveal player movements.
“Most of the girls have good skill and technique, I just have to concentrate on getting them fitter,” he said.
Junee has gained Mel Parker from South Wagga.
Wagga United president Ian Hardinge’s stoked with the number of women training with Chris Driscoll.
The Crows are six players short of fielding three teams, one team in Leonard and two teams in Madden.
“We have had a massive influx of new players,” he said.
“We want to send a shout out to any new or old players wanting to have a game, any uni students or defence personnel that are new to town.”
South Wagga will nominate a first and reserve grade squad and coach Marty Cutler said he’s pushing to make finals this season.
Lake Albert had an effective recruitment drive at O Week; 22 girls registered interest.
Club spokesman Hayden Callander said it was too soon to tell whether they had enough players to enter two teams in the competition.
Cootamundra coach Mick Simons gained Ash Holder, lost Erin Boxsell to Canberra and will enter reserve grade.
Newcomers Leeton will nominate a team in the Madden competition; their women’s squad won the wooden spoon in Griffith, in a league reputed to be stronger than the Wagga league.
Young have not returned contact with The Daily Advertiser but were keen to enter a Madden squad again, as of December.
