The Lions have welcomed interstate recruits Glenn Sypott and Hamish Jannings as well as two talented Riverina footballers in Zac Wiencke and Jesse Lander.
The long-time Riverina League heavyweight have experienced an off-season like no other with eight departures, headlined by the loss of James Lawton and Curtis Steele.
Finally the Lions have been able to off-set some of the losses with the addition of four midfielders.
GGGM captain-coach Luke Sicker is pleased to get some recruits on board.
“It’s good, they’re going to be pretty handy for us,” Sicker said.
Sypott, 29, arrives from Townsville where he has won a couple of premierships with Thuringowa Bulldogs.
Jannings, originally from Western Australia, has moved to Ganmain after a year with Geelong Football League club Newtown & Chilwell, where he cracked one senior game.
Wiencke, 19, has joined the Lions from Temora, where he impressed enough to represent Farrer League last year.
Lander returns to GGGM after a year in Sydney and will provide speed on a wing.
“Glenn moves pretty well at training and brings some strong leadership, which is good with the kids,” Sicker said.
“Hamish obviously played some good footy last year, managing to play seniors in Geelong. That’s as good as it gets in Victoria.
“Zac played in the Farrer rep team last year and wanted to have a crack at the Riverina League, which is good.”
Sicker said the signs at pre-season training have been promising.
“We were obviously young last year, and this year we’ll be even younger,” he said.
“It’s good to see the young fellas stepping up and they’ve actually been leading the way for us, which is good.”
GGGM will play three trial games in preparation for round one, beginning with Northern Jets on March 12.
They will play Osborne and Marrar after that.
