From 43C heat interruptions and storms on Saturday, down to 16C and rain on Sunday, the weather gods couldn’t have thrown much more at the club as it hosted 800 athletes from across southern NSW.

Amid a host of strong performances, the Wagga club was toasting its junior relay team of Frankleen Newah-Jarfoi, Jaxson Allen, Charlie Harper and Lachlan Field after creating history by winning its first regional relay title.
With athletes travelling from Wollongong and the south coast to western Riverina, cancelling the championships wasn’t an option.
Track events were modified to be run as timed-finals (only heats, with winners determined on times) and field events were shortened.
The event was halted twice on Saturday when the reading of temperature and humidity was above the threshold set by Little Athletics NSW’s heat policy.
However, with the temperature dropping late on the first day, organisers were able to run the 3000m events in the evening, before returning on Sunday to complete the carnival.
Athletes were competing for a spot at next month's state championships in Sydney.
