FOLLOWING a week of mounting concerns surrounding the fate of the Lake Talbot Pool Complex Narrandera Shire Council has defended the plans for proposed upgrades.

CEO Judy Charlton debunked fears the popular water attraction would be turned into an indoor pool facility, however, the plans propose replacing the current Rampage pool and slide.
“Convert rampage pool into a large seated landscape area which would include the construction of a new action flume water slide facility to replace the rampage slide,” the Draft Master Plan states.
Ms Charlton said all upgrades and enhancements are part of proposed redevelopment plans and will go to a stakeholder reference group (SRG), who will provide feedback on the proposed upgrades.
“The proposed draft master plan is a concept to be tabled at the SRG and is a major investment to upgrade the aging end of life facilities while retaining and enhancing the outdoor complex,” Ms Charlton said.
This includes extensive grassed terraced picnic areas, flume slide, Olympic and island pool facilities, while considering the addition of a new heated pool and a fun new splash zone.”
Deputy General Manager of Infrastructure Julian Geddes said upgrades and enhancements are required to maintain the current facility and its reputation as one of the best pool complexes in the Riverina.
“Council is looking to invest in the future of the facility to upgrade ageing infrastructure like pumps, pipes, valves and filtration systems as well as providing modern facilities that meet the current and future needs of the community,” Mr Geddes said.
“The draft master plan provides new facilities to attract new pool users with a separate indoor heated program pool, outdoor enhanced splash zone for younger children, new family leisure pool and improved access for all users.”
Mr Geddes said proposed plans to built a 20 metre indoor heated program pool could allow for year-round use of the facility.
Council said they will commence the first stage of the Community Engagement Plan to establish the SRG.
Council will also conduct an online survey to capture the ideas and opinions of residents and visitors regarding the proposed upgrades.
At the conclusion of the SRG process the revised draft master plan will go on public exhibition for community feedback in March, with the final plan going to Council for adoption in April.
The draft Master Plan, if delivered in full over the five stages, would be a multi-million dollar investment by council.
