After helping the Boiled Lollies to a grand final appearance last season, the Englishman will leap into the unknown after joining Group Nine club Tumut.
The 32-year-old has limited rugby league experienced, with only a few years of football left he thought it was now or never to switch codes.
“It was something I was a little bit intrigued about,” Curgenven said.
“It’s a new challenge for me and I thought I’d give it a go and see how I felt.
“I’ve played rugby union for 20-odd years and only played rugby league a little bit so I thought it would be a nice opportunity to have a try at another sport and see how I go.”
Coming to Wagga City three seasons ago as a five-eighth, Curgenven made a big impact when he was switched to fullback midway through last season.
It was one of the catalysts for the Boiled Lolllies impressive run to the grand final, but he isn’t concerned about where he lines up for the Blues.
“They see me as a kicking option and if that involves me going back to five-eighth, where I played when I first came over at Wagga City, or going in the centres or fullback it is wherever they see fit basically,” Curgenven said.
Curgenven won’t be completely lost to Wagga City and still plans to help with the development of the clubs juniors.
The Boiled Lollies publicity officer Darren Rudd said the club wished Curgenven well in his new venture.
Meanwhile, Wagga City will start the season with a grand final rematch with Waratahs on April 8.
The draw was released this week and in other first round clashes Ag College will travel to Griffith, CSU hosts Albury while Leeton will play Tumut at home.
There are three general byes throughout the season.
The first is just after round one for Easter, before two in June.
The first is over the June long weekend, which will coincide with the Brumbies Provincial Tournament to be hosted by Monaro, before another general bye the following week when the Brumbies Provincial team will play NSW Country in Canberra.
Finals will start on August 5 before the grand final at Conolly Rugby Complex on August 26.
