Hall has drawn Rambling Angel, a horse that has the potential to ruin his night.
“I’ve drawn a really good horse, ride him and you’ll either win on it, or it’s going to buck you off,” he said.”
“He tries so hard, he never gives you an inch.”
The 2016 Australian Professional Rodeo Association runner-up is the only cowboy of his calibre entered.
“Most of them are young fellas just getting started,” he said.
“But if he bucks me off it will open the field right up.”
Local riders include Tooma cowboy Brad Pierce, 2015 APRA saddle bronc riding champion, and Rosewood competitor Tim Hammond.
Two new events, including a pony bareback and an open barrel race, have been added to the program this year.
Hall, who organises the rodeo, said the junior event had been added to compel more boys to take up the sport.
“We’re trying to encourage more bareback riders to come through the ranks,” he said.
“We had hoped for a full event of local kids, but we couldn’t get them; we had to look further.”
Hall’s reaching out to kids from all backgrounds, running junior development days next year.
“It’s hard to get involved in rodeo if your family's not involved,” he said.
“I didn’t come from a rodeo family, it was hard getting started. People do want to help. Once they see you’re keen and willing, really keen to really make something of it, they’ll do everything they can to help you.”
